Blenders – an essential kitchen appliance. But what would you say if I told you could have a machine that mills, grinds, steams, whips, mixes, chops, reverse chops!, beats, kneads, sautés AND is German made? I know, IN-credible. Actually over a year ago now my very good friend and fellow fit and healthy foodie, Vic, told me of such a machine (oh my!), and then told me the price and I’m pretty sure I laughed and wondered why the heck she had spent ‘so much on a blender’ (sorry Vic!). But then I went to visit her in Perth and within approximately 23 minutes of being in the vicinity of THE THERMOMIX I fell in love. For serious. I will be grateful to Vic forever for introducing us. It takes ‘she spent how much on a blender’ to a whole new level and will ruin all other kitchen appliances for you.
For me, my thermie (yes, we are on pet name level) made life easier and enabled me to make so many more things from scratch and save money whilst trying to eat clean. Suddenly the option of making coconut flour by throwing desiccated coconut into my thermie and blitzing it, same with chickpea, rice, almond and pretty much any other flour I fancied was a breeze. What the?! And that is just the beginning. I’m also lucky enough to have flatmates who not only let me squeal (on a daily basis) about how much I love my Thermomix, but ones who let me to take up some of the bench space with it also – winning.
Some posts on this blog will be Thermomix based but they will all be adaptable to non-thermie users too – it’ll just take you a little longer as the Thermomix is sort of a ‘fast’ cooker, rather than a slow one. AND.I.LOVE.IT. If I wasn’t absolutely terrified of public speaking and have a huge dislike of being the centre of attention, I would most likely volunteer to be on an infomercial for it – these don’t currently exist. Sadly (some may disagree) that will never happen.
These are a few of my favourite things
Some key information about the Thermomix: they aren’t sold in stores, no no folks, you need to enquire with your local Thermomix peeps and have a consultant come over for a Thermomix party/demo to show you all of the glorious features it consists of before you decide that you can’t live without one and must buy one immediately. Personally I’m a fan of this approach as without a little guidance you could very easily miss some of its ninja moves and stealth qualities. I’m not going to lie, they are one zillion dollars/approx NZ$2,400 (thank tank for no interest repayment plans), but I swear – and anyone who knows me at all will agree as they have heard me yabber on about it over and over – they are worth EVERY penny.

I’m off to make an almond milk latte in my thermie now … yes … you read that right, it does it ALL!

Definitely a love affair! And, what she makes is so good!
